Family business, one son did the estimate, another did the job. Both professional, friendly, came right on time, and did excellent work. Thank you very much!
If you’re looking for a masonry contractor in Auburn Hills, MI, there’s usually a reason. Cracked brick, failing mortar, a chimney starting to lean, or steps that have moved enough to get your attention. Lovell Masonry works on residential masonry throughout Auburn Hills, helping property owners figure out what’s failing, what can be repaired, and where more extensive work makes sense.
One thing we see fairly often is a small area of damage that’s been developing for many years before anyone realized. A few spalling bricks. Cracked mortar joints. Movement in a porch or chimney that didn’t seem important at first.
Michigan weather has a way of exposing those weak spots. Moisture gets into damaged masonry, temperatures drop, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles keep working on the brick and mortar.
That doesn’t mean every crack turns into a major project.
We can usually tell pretty quickly whether the repair is isolated or whether there’s movement or deterioration somewhere else in the structure. That’s the part worth understanding before deciding what to do.

They went above and beyond to make a large brick patio look like new.
Great company. We have a very large brick patio that needed to be power washed and replace the polymeric sand. He went over and above to make sure our patio looked like new. Would definitely hire again.
They replaced a driveway cement slab, leveled patio pavers, and repaired the front porch.
They did a great job replacing slab of cement for driveway, leveled patio pavers and repaired front porch.

The tuckpointing and brick work looked awesome.
These guys were great, my tuck pointing and brick look awesome. Highly recommended.
They were responsive, did a great job redoing the porch, and had the best pricing out of five quotes.
This company is very responsive, and did a great job re-doing my porch. I will certainly be using them again to do all of my brick work! Pricing was the best I received out of the other 5 quotes I got.
A cracked brick gets your attention. That doesn’t necessarily mean the brick is the whole problem.
We see that with chimneys quite a bit. The obvious damage might be near the top, while mortar joints farther down are already opening up. Porch steps can be similar. You notice one loose brick or a crack along the edge, then find movement underneath once you start looking around.
Other jobs really are that simple. A small section of brick has deteriorated, the surrounding masonry is solid, and there’s no reason to turn it into a bigger project.
That’s why we look beyond the spot that brought you outside in the first place. On Auburn Hills homes, the answer could be tuckpointing, replacing damaged brick, repairing part of a porch, or rebuilding a section that’s moved too far.
Lovell Masonry offers senior and military discounts on eligible masonry projects. Discount details can vary by project scope, so contact the team to talk through the work and ask what may be available.
You can make a perfectly solid repair and still have it look wrong.
Older brick isn’t always easy to match. Color is part of it, but so are size, texture, and the mortar jointing. Stone masonry has the same problem. Even concrete next to existing masonry can make a repair stand out if the new construction doesn’t fit what’s already there.
New work brings up different questions.
On brick paver patios and walkways, homeowners usually start with the design. We spend plenty of time looking at what’s going underneath it. Excavation, grade, and the gravel or sand base have a lot to do with whether those pavers stay where they’re supposed to.
Retaining walls, porches, and other masonry structures are the same way. What you see when the job is finished is only part of what had to be right.
A few questions tend to come up when we’re looking at masonry around Auburn Hills homes.
A lot of the time, yes. If we’re looking at a few damaged bricks and everything around them is still solid, the repair can stay fairly contained. Movement through a larger section of the wall changes that conversation.
Once you can see that a chimney is leaning, we’d want to look at more than the mortar around the obvious area. The important question is what’s moving and how much of the chimney is involved.
They do. Brick pavers give you quite a few choices in size, shape, and design for patios and walkways. We pay just as much attention to the base underneath them because that’s where a lot of settling problems begin.
Usually by looking at what’s damaged and then checking the masonry around it. Sometimes the repair stays small. Sometimes what we find changes the scope.
If you’ve got brick cracking, a chimney moving, porch damage, or another masonry problem at an Auburn Hills property, contact Lovell Masonry for an estimate. We’ll take a look, see what’s there, and talk through what the job needs.
